Clayton Alexander Hopp, 78, of Homer, died at his home Friday, July 9, 2004.
He was born June 7, 1926, to Clayton J. and Ruth A. (McAllister) Hopp in Ypsilanti.
He married Monica Ellen Williams on November 9, 1944, and she survives.
Mr. Hopp graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1944 and entered the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS John R. Pierce in the South Pacific during World War II. When he returned, he attended the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1950. After graduation he worked at Meinmann-Matthews drugstore and later bought into the store, which was sold in 1967.
Mr. Hopp then joined the Medical Center of the University of Michigan and stayed there until he retired in 1987. He was a past president of Washtenaw County Pharmaceutical Association and was a member of the Meadowview School Board.
He had been active in the Homer United Methodist Church, the Homer Historical Society and enjoyed being a member of the M-Club of Ann Arbor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Daniel Frederick (Maria) Hopp of St. Joseph; two daughters, Elizabeth Ruelle McGuire (Stephen) Heller of Manchester, and Emily Louise (John) Salvette of Ann Arbor; a daughter-in-law, Susan Hopp of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Lois Louise (Roger) Katon of Ypsilanti and Ruth Lorraine (Robert) Bogardus of Munith; a brother, William Howard (Norma) Hopp of Munith; many nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson...
He was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Alexander Hopp, Jr.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 13, at the Homer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery..f
