J. Lynn was born in Homer, MI. He worked for the railroad and moved to Long Beach, CA. He owned an insurance agency (Avery Insurance Agency) and was very active in community affairs. He was a 33rd degree Mason and had the special Masonic memorial ceremony. He was the chairman of Travelers' Aid. He married Margaret Jones in 1939 and together they had four children. He was cremated and is at Sunnyside with his wife Margaret.
