Consultant neurophysiologist Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, University College London 1983, MA, MD, FRCP. He had an permanent passion for clinical neuroscience and for a wide range of outside interests, including the music of Elvis Costello. After training in neurology and ophthalmology he settled on a career in neurophysiology. He took an MD on transcranial magnetic stimulation while working as a Medical Research Council training fellow at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford. He was appointed to the first full time consultant position in neurophysiology at Addenbrooke's Hospital. He co-edited the book 'Plasticity in the Human Nervous System'.
