Verena Wintsch was born in Volketswil, Zurich, Switzerland, the daughter of Martin Wintsch and Regula Saurenmon. She married Hans Ulrich Bryner March 29, 1826 in Bassersdorf. In 1854 she and her husband joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Three years later they emigrated to America arriving in the Salt Lake Valley in the fall of 1857. She is the mother of seven children. Five survived to adulthood: Hans Ulrich, Hans Heinrich, Anna Barbara, Verena, and Casper.
