Mrs. Mary B. Macke, one of the good mothers of St. Mary's Parish, St. Benedict, died at her home, Wednesday, October 29, of hemorrhage, after a short illness, at the age of sixty-eight. She had been in failing health for the past year and for six days was seriously ill.
Mary Wietharn was born in Damme, Oldenburg, Germany, where her marriage to Frank Macke, occurred. Mr. and Mrs. Macke came to this country about forty-two years ago, settling on a farm, near Bern. About thirty-five years ago they bought the farm, where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Mr. Macke died eleven years ago, the 2nd of September. Of a family of seven children born in this county, five survive: Mrs. August Hunninghake of Baileyville, Mrs. Frank Wessel of Corning, Henry, Frank, and Joseph Macke, all of Baileyville. She leaves also two nephews and a niece: Frank Wietharn of Baileyville, Henry Wietharn and Mrs. Theresa Pille of Seneca.
Requiem mass was read by Father Gregory, O.S.B. at St. Mary's church, St. Benedict, on Friday morning, October 31st, and the burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, by the side of her husband. The children have the sympathy of all, in their loss of a beloved parent and her neighbors, a kind friend.
Corrections: misspelled Huninghake,
Marriage date: July 7, 1870, in Germany.
Henry was born in Germany, June 17, 1872.
Christine died at 8 months, Nov. 25, 1881.
Bernard died at 9 months, June 30, 1883.
