Rites Wednesday for Leo Pottebaum
Leo Pottebaum, 94 of Granville died Sunday , April 12 at Heartland Care Center, Marcus, after a brief illness.
Funeral services were at 10:10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Granville with his nephew Rev. Dan Knipper of Waterloo and Rev. James Tigges of Alton officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The Fisch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pottebaum was born August 8, 1903 at rural Alton, Ia., the son of Bernard and Catherine (Friedmann) Pottebaum. He was raised in the Alton area and attended St. Mary's Academy at Alton. He was then engaged in farming with his father until his marriage.
His marriage to Hilda Knipper took place Sept. 4, 1928 at Dyersville, Ia. They farmed near Granville ad retired on the farm in 1957. Hilda died April 14, 1991. Leo has been a resident of Heartland Care Center since Nov 18,1996.
he was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Granville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, LeMars.
Surviving are his adopted daughter, Mrs. Ivan ( Clare ) Pottebaum of Granville; seven adopted grandchildren, 17 adopted great grandchildren, a brother, Martin Pottebaum of Remsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, John, William, Anton, henry and Al; and five sisters, Mrs. Felix ( Ann ) Streff, Sister Mary Leola, Mrs. Nick ( Mary ) Portz, Mrs. Sylvester ( Rose ) Minten and Mrs. Jake ( Hilda ) Haupert.
Casket bearers were Gerry Buden, Brad Fear, Jim Homan, Jim Lage, Leon Pottebaum and Glenn Reichle.
