A worship service celebrating the completed life of Mary "Molly" Lowe Cassels, 96, of Springhill were held Sunday, March 8, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Springhill United Methodist Church, Springhill, with the Rev. Walter Parker officiating and the Rev. Jimmie Pyles and the Rev. James Evans assisting.

Visitation for family and friends was held Saturday, March 7, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary Springhill. Interment will follow the service at Old Shongaloo United Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill.

Mrs. Cassels died Friday, March 6, 2009, in Texarkana, Texas, where she lived for the past year. Prior to that time she lived in Springhill for more than 30 years. She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Waldo, Ark. to the late Perry Ford and Eunice Jackson Lowe. She grew up in the McIntyre community near Minden and lived most of her life in Webster Parish.


Six siblings preceded her in death, Prentiss Lowe, Lalia Perryman, Eldred Lowe, William Lowe, Herbert Lowe and Terral Lowe. A baby daughter, Glenda Marie Cassels, also preceded her in death.


She served over 40 years in ministry alongside her husband, the Rev. W. Paul Cassels, until his death in 1988. United Methodist Churches served include, Shongaloo, White Hall, Simsboro, Antioch, Salem, Heflin, Dubberly, Evergreen, Pine Grove, Pleasant Valley and Colquitt. Her church service included leadership roles in United Methodist Women, Sunday school, Bible School and special children's programs. She was church pianist in most of the churches. Since, 1988 she has been an active member of Springhill United Methodist Church.


One of Mrs. Cassels' first loves was music. As an accomplished musician herself she taught piano lessons to many children and some adults in every community she lived in. Her fondest dream was for her students to someday play for church. She lived to see that dream come to fruition.


She is survived by daughter, Peggy Merritt and husband Hasting of Springhill; son, William Paul Cassels, Jr. and wife Priscilla of Shreveport; brother, the Rev. Winston Lowe and wife Eva of Many; sister, Margaret Dodez and husband Harry of Texarkana, Texas; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lowe; grandchildren, Dennis Merritt and wife Natalia, of Kenosha, Wis., Laura Johnson and husband Dr. Martin Johnson of Texarkana, Texas, Kim Cassels of Shreveport; Juli Phillips and husband Bo of Bella Vista, Atk. and Dr. Kristi Michael and husband Dr. Rick Michael of Shreveport; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.


Pallbearers will be Robert Garland, Ricky Hough, Wayne King, John Jackson, Richard Johnson, Charles Park, David Rhea and Terry Shelton.


Honorary pallbearers are John Allen, E.E. "Griff" Griffen, C.M. "Son" Harrison, Doug Hearne, F.M. Kirkley, Sid Moreland, Arthur Stevens, John Stevens and Wally McCartney.


In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Springhill United Methodist Church Music Ministry, P.O. Box 545, Springhill, La. 71075 or to LA Tech Wesley Foundation, P.O. Box 3005, Ruston, La. 71272.
