Ida N. Suter

Ida, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, born on Dec. 7, 1911, the ninth of ten children to Carl and Betsy Hyland in McIntosh, MN, died peacefully in her sleep on June 15, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Parkland for 53 years. Her husband Walter preceded her in death in 1990, at which time they had been married for 54 years. Her early years included a short career as a teacher followed by years in different locations during Walter's Navy career, eventually settling in Tacoma. As a homemaker she found time to be a Cub Scout den mother, charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church's Altar Guild, Sunday school teacher and member of the Sparks singing group. She also volunteered at Trinity Senior Meal Site for 20 years. Her artistic talents were expressed through her love for sewing and detailed handwork. But she loved most being grandmother to her three granddaughters. Ida was the mother of 3 children, Tone, who passed away in 2001, Wayne (Susan) Spanaway and Nancy (Miles) Kaste, Ketchikan, AK, and three granddaughters, Amy, Stephanie and Laura. Ida and two of her sisters married three brothers so family gatherings were a special treat. She is also survived by her sister Mabel of Detroit Lakes MN and many loved nieces and nephews. She loved collecting angels and is with them now. Memorial service is Monday, June 20, 2005 at 12:30pm, Trinity Lutheran Church, Tacoma WA. The family asks that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
