He was born July 13, 1916, on a farm southwest of Kelly, the son of Joseph and Minnie Robertson Winkler. The family moved to the Winkler place southwest of Seneca, where he grew up and attended Sts. Peter and Paul School. He helped on the family farm.
On January 29, 1942, he married Mildred Larkin at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. She died July 23, 1996.
They farmed near Seneca until 1953, when they moved to Kansas City, KS. He worked for Sunshine Bakery in Kansas City, KS, before going to work as a custodian at Tower State Bank in Kansas City, KS. He retired in July, 1978. They enjoyed traveling until he entered the nursing home due to ill health.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca and a former member of Christ the King Church, Kansas City, KS.
Survivors include sons, Richard Winkler, Orlando, FL; Larry Winkler, Canyon City, CO; Wayne Winkler, Washington, D.C.; sister, Lucille Sextro, Kansas City, KS; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Seneca. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Baileyville, KS.
