Henry was born about "a 2 hour walk" outside of Hanover Germany. He emigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of 5 in 1889.

He married Alice Mary Adams in 1907 and the family settle in Aaron, King, Washington by 1910 (this town no longer exists, but was just outside of Auburn). 1918 thru 1940, they lived in Auburn, King, Washington.

Alice died on 4 July 1924. In 1940, he married her widowed sister, Elsie Hattie (Adams) Lacey. They later moved the family to Albany, Linn, Oregon where they resided until Henry's death in 1967.
