Conrad and William were twin brothers born in Cincinnati from poor immigrant parents on their transition to central California. Conrad died at home of diptheria and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery probably in the old Fresno City paupers' cemetery adjacent to the military cemetery. The family did not have the funds to provide a proper burial, but when a family plot was bought in the mid-40s, a marker was placed in the family plot with the wrong death year to remember his short life.
