Ferne Perkins Bix
Ferne Perkins Bix, age 81, of Hopkins, Missouri died October 28, 1998 at Maryville Health Care Center, Maryville, Missouri where she had been a resident for six days. Ferne was born December 23, 1916 in Hopkins, Missouri to [Joseph] Franklin Perkins and Ella [Louise] Stewart. She was married to Ralph Curtis Bix on September 21, 1940 in Trenton, Missouri.
Ferne was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Bedford High School, class of 1934, Bedford, Iowa. She was a teacher and homemaker. Ferne taught in rural Taylor County, Iowa schools.
She belonged to Hopkins Christian Church; a Charter Member of the Prairie Flower Club; Merry Ridge Club; Sixty Plus Club; Merry Mixer Plus Club, all of Hopkins. Mrs. Bix taught Sunday school classes and held many offices in Christian Women's Fellowship (CFW) for the Hopkins Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bix on January 18, 1998 and her parents.
Survivors include a son, Glenn Bix, Hopkins, Missouri and a daughter, Karen Swaney, Sheridan, Missouri; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Charlene Barkhurst, Oroville, California.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31, 1998 at the Hopkins Christian Church in Hopkins with burial at the Siam Cemetery. Rev. Royce Bounds officiating. Price Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
