Mr. Hurtig farmed near Delphos. He also was a director of the Delphos Co-op, and he served in the Army from 1956 to 1958.
He was born Dec. 21, 1933, on a farm near Delphos, the son of Alfred F. and Lillian Durst Hurtig. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Hurtig was a member of First Presbyterian Church at Delphos where he was an elder and clerk of session.
He also was a member of Prairie Long Rifles, Tappan Hill Black Powder Cartridge Rifles, National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loader Rifle Association and the Delphos Rifle Team.
He was married to Virginia Irvine on Aug. 14, 1955, at Delphos. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Kent Hurtig, Wichita; two daughters, Andrea Spear and Yvonne Burch, both of Delphos; a brother, Bill Hurtig, Delphos; a sister, Dolores Gowdy, Manhattan; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Hurtig was preceded in death by a son, Brett Hurtig, in 1961, a daughter, Heather Hurtig, in 1994, and twin grandsons, Ryan Hurtig and Christopher Hurtig.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Delphos.
Burial will be at the Delphos Cemetery.
Mr. Hurtig will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis, and before service time Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Delphos and sent in care of the funeral home.
