Richard J. Maas, 79, Lakeshore Road, Sandy Pond, died Friday April 10, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Maas was a millwright for Carrier Corp., Syracuse, for 30 years.

Born March 10, 1930, in Binghamton, son of Jacob and Isabelle Drake Maas, he attended Johnson City Schools. He lived in Sandy Pond for 50 years, previously living in Johnson City.

He married Johanna Kettlewell on Sept. 22, 1953.

Mr. Maas served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. He enjoyed hunting, boating and was an outdoorsman.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald, Tampa, Fla., and Daniel and Becky, Sandy Creek; three daughters, Kathleen Stickane, Ithaca, Brenda Akkoul and her companion, James Norden, Sandy Pond, and Pamela Maas, Pulaski; a sister, Eloise "Elaine" Maas, Johnson City; and five grandchildren.

A grandson died before him.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St., Pulaski.

Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
