Lucille B. Stith, 76, of Payneville is in serious condition in the coronary care unit of University Hospital following an accident on KY 144 June 17. According to a state highway police report, Stith, driving a '91 Olds Cutlass, was traveling west on KY 144 and began to drift into the eastbound lane in the path of an oncoming '73 Chevrolet 6000 flatbed carrying a load of logs. The driver of the truck, James W. Humphrey of Brandenburg moved to the far right side of the road to allow Stith to pass by but was struck in the left rear causing the truck to overturn. Stith's car landed facing southeast in the westbound lane of travel with severe damage to the left front of the vehicle. She was treated at the scene by Meade County Emergency Medical personnel and stat-flighted to University Hospital in Louisville. A passenger in the Stith car, Benjamin Kessinger of Payneville, and the driver of the truck, were transported by EMS to Jewish Hospital Medical Center in Brandenburg where they were treated for injuries. State Policeman C.T. Knochel worked the accident.

Lucille Stith, 79, Payneville, died November 1, 2000, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1921, the daughter of George Henry and Mamie Catherine Kerrick Barr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Baxter, and 3 brothers, Thomas Eugene Barr, Edwin L. Barr, and George Henry Barr. Mrs Stith is survived by 11 children, Priscilla Ann Padgett, Janet Marie Kessinger, and Richard Thomas Stith, all of Payneville, Franklin Baxter Stith, Battletown, Anthony Forrest "Tony" Stith, Versailles, Robert Ernest Stith and Bart H. Stith, Brandenburg, Gregory Louis Stith, Glendale, Nancy Lou Padgett and Monica Kay Padgett, both of Vine Grove, and Eric Gerard Stith, Janesville, Wisc.; a nephew, Eddie Bruner, Louisville; 5 sisters, Anna Catherine Knott, Payneville, Bernadine Adkisson, Brandenburg, Anita Bruner, Louisville, Martha Nell Elder, Webster, and Barbara Zietz, Guston; a brother, John David Barr, Jamestown; 34 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held November 4 from St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with the Rev. Bob Abel officiating. Burial was in church cemetery, directed by Hager Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Scotty Padgett, David Stith, Howard Kessinger, Brian Stith, Phillip Stith, Kurt Padgett, Matthew Padgett and Ryan Stith. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Infant Memorial at St. Mary Magdalen.
