Maurice M. Wehler, 55, retired president of the Littlestown Savings institution, died suddenly this morning about 7 o'clock as he was dressing at his home in Littlestown. Mr. Wehler had resigned as president of the savings institution in March due to failing health but had been able to take an active interest in the Littlestown Canning Company, which he helped to organize and of which he served as president for the last eight years.
Mr. Wehler was the son of the late Aarin and Alberta Wehler, and was born and raised in that vicinity his entire life. He was graduated from Hanover academy and Ursinus college and following his graduation he became principal of the high school at East Berlin, serving for about five years. From East Berlin he went to Littlestown to become assistant cashier of the savings institution there.
He was later elected to the post of cashier, rising successively eight years ago upon the death of S.S. Maring became president in May, 1924. He resigned that position on March 14, the twenty-fifth anniversary of his association with the bank.
While Mr. Wehler had been in poor health for some time he had been able to attend to his duties. It was shortly after five o'clock this morning that he was found prostrate in the bathroom of his home by his son Lloyd, who is living with his parents. Dr. Crouse was called but despite his efforts to revive Mr. Wehler, he succumbed shortly after 7 o'clock. Apoplexy was given given as the cause of death.
Mr. Wehler is survived by his widow, who before her marriage was Miss Jennie Basehoar, tow sons, Melvin, East King street, Littlestown, and Lloyd, at home, two brothers Charles Wehler, Littlestown; Elmer Wehler, near Gettysburg and one sister, Mrs. Charles Stambaugh, Littlestown, survive.
Mr. Wehler was a long and faithful member of the Redeemer Reformed Church near Littlestown.
Funeral services Wednesday afternoon at his late home at 2 o'clock, the Rev. H.H. Hartman pastor of Redeemer's church officiating. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
