Michael Aaron Nydegger, 38, of Lafayette, died at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at home after a two year battle with cancer.

The beloved son of Larry W. and Florence (Loft) Nydegger, he was born on January 3, 1971, at Lafayette Home Hospital on his father's birthday.

His marriage was to Nicole Van Dame from 1997-2006 and they have two beautiful children, Karissa Nicole Nydegger, 9, and Blake Michael Nydegger, 7.

Mike loved and adored both of his children. He enjoyed coaching and watching his son Blake's baseball and basketball teams and his daughter Karissa's cheerleading and riding at horse shows. Mike shared many special moments with his kids and most recently escorted Karissa to her Father and Daughter Dance and took Blake to his first Chicago Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field.

Raised in the Dayton community, he attended Dayton Elementary and Wainwright Junior High before graduating from McCutcheon High School in 1989 where he was a drummer in the marching and jazz bands. He attended Indiana State University for two years where he received his private pilot's license at the age of 19.

He was baptized in the Dayton United Methodist Church and attended there his entire life. He played drums for the Sunday morning worship team and played on the softball team for twenty years.

An avid sports fan, Mike loved the Chicago Cubs and Purdue Boilermakers. Earlier this month, Mike and his friend Aaron Tilton went to Phoenix, Arizona to see Purdue in the Sweet Sixteen, two Cubs spring training games and took a day off to visit the Grand Canyon.

During college summers, he worked for A.E. Staley - South Plant. He later worked for Furrow's in Lafayette where he met his wife Nicole. Mike then was employed at Coca Cola in Lafayette for 8 years, starting as driver and then was promoted to sales manager. He worked the last five years for Eli Lilly as chemical operator. He greatly appreciated his friendships and support from his friends and co-workers both past and present.

Surviving with his parents and children are a sister, Angela Nydegger of Dayton and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Irma Loft of Lafayette. Mike loved and was deeply loved by his extended family, including many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his paternal Grandparents:
Ina Mae Graham Nydegger
Lee Daniel Nydegger
