Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday , Nov. 6, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Roland is survived by his wife, Dorothy Panning of rural Gibbon; daughters and sons-in-law, Kris and Don Metzler of Golden Valley, Janet and Joel Renner of Victoria, Rachel and Scott Bartz of Belle Plaine; sons and daughter-in-law, Dave and Barb Panning of Gibbon, Merle Panning of rural Gibbon; ten grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Clarice and Don Fastenau, Norma Luetke of Onalaska, Wisconsin; brothers and sister-in-law, Armin and Virginia Panning of Port Washington, Wisconsin, Frederick and Doris Panning of St. Paul Park; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, David Luetke.
He was born on June 23, 1928, in New Ulm to William and Frieda (Bode) Panning. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1953 and was stationed in Germany. On June 13, 1954 he married Dorothy Wohlrabe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont. After marriage they farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County. He was a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and served on many church boards and sang in the choir. He also served on the board of the Tri-County Co-op and was a life-long member of the Lutheran Layman's League
