Bertha was born on June 11, 1931 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Fidel and Ernestina [Chacon] Martinez. Bertha enjoyed gambling, dancing, playing cards, family and friends, flowers, gardening, and traveling.
Preceding Bertha in death were her parents, one daughter, one brother, and one sister. Bertha is survived by her children, Glenda Aragon of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Fredo [Fay Armenta] Martinez of Monte Vista, Colorado, Jesus [Ruthie] Contreras of Anchorage, Alaska, Paul [Georgia] Contreras of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Ernestina [Daniel] Fernandez of Thornton, Colorado; Brothers, Elfido (Adela) Martinez of Monte Vista, George Martinez, Joe [Mary] Martinez of Alamosa, Fidel [Janelle] Martinez, Jr. of Denver; sisters, Sara [Rudy] Duran of Monte Vista, Patricia [Santiago] Cordova of Fountain, Grace Padilla of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Rosine Martinez of Phoenix, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at 8:30-4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Strohmayer's Funeral Home. Rosary will be Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 7 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial to follow in San Luis Cemetery in Monte Vista.
