Born in Neisse, Germany, and educated in Patschkau, Germany, she became a U.S. citizen in 1964. She was a communications specialist in the womens' auxiliary of the German Navy during World War II, and later an employee of the U.S. Army in Europe. She was the youngest child of five born to the late Konrad Hedwig Galonska.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Friesch; son, Matthias of Berlin, Germany, and other relatives.
