He was born March 20, 1924 in Remus to Peter and Clara (Gallinger) Lehnert. Herman was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving in Alaska during WWII. He married Sylvia DeForest and made his home in Alaska where he spent three years prospecting for gold. Herman also lived in Washington through out the years.
Herman and Sylvia enjoyed square dancing when they were younger and he loved to read. Herman moved back to Michigan three years ago to be cared for by his niece and nephew, Sue and Rob Figgins, in Millington.
Herman is survived by two sisters: Eva Moomey, Catherine Joslin; sister-in-law Helen Lehnert, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Three of his great nephews will dearly miss their Uncle that was more like a grandfather to them- they are; Jacob, Hunter and Logan Figgins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia, brothers: Hubert, Carl, Adolph, Paul, Edgar, Arnold, Urban and Robert and sister Frances Bosley.
The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will take place at St. Michael's 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2006. Memorial contributions in Herman's name may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church.
