Emanuel Kerbs, 92, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rupert, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, in Idaho Falls.

Emanuel was born Dec. 7, 1916, the 11th child of 11 brothers and sisters, to Johann Gottfried and Kath- erina Elizabeth Rusch Kerbs. He was born three miles west of Kimama Butte on a dry farm homesteaded by his parents.

On Feb. 14, 1937, he married Wanda Allen. They started farming in 1937, in the Burley Unity area, Heyburn and Paul. In 1948, they moved to the Rupert Pioneer area, and in 1951, they bought the Ida Hatch Farm. He quit farming in 1980. He also worked at Safeways for 10 years, Swensens, Carl & Don's Market and Albertsons. He served a stake mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints working in the Russian German Extraction Program, genealogy, Burley Family History Center and MIA. He was a member of the Snake River Flats in Burley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and traveling to Hawaii, Europe, England, Alaska and the East Coast.

Emanuel and Wanda were married for 65 years. Due to failing health, Emanuel moved to Lincoln Court Assisted Living in Idaho Falls in September, 2001. He married Beth Gerrard Allen on Jan. 5, 2002.

He is survived by his present wife, Beth, and her seven daughters; his children, Joanne Kerbs of Idaho Falls, Yutonna Kerbs of Idaho Falls, Ellen Kerbs of Idaho Falls and Bonnie Buttars of Rexburg; grandchildren, JoNelle Hacking, Dennis Vern Hacking Jr., Grant Emanuel Hacking, Wes Lee Jones, Joseph Blake Jones, Gordon Glen Buttars, Lorin Vance Buttars and Olivia Buttars Andrews; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brother, George Kerbs of Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Vance Allen Buttars.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 Sixth St. A viewing for family and friends will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Paul Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Lincoln Court Assisted Living Center and our lovely four daughters for the loving care they have given to their father.
