U. A. Ubben, Pekin Resident 70 Years Died This Morning
Ubbo A. Ubben, head of the Ubben Coal Company, a resident of Pekin for over 70 years and one of the community's prominent and highly esteemed citizens, died at his home, 1104 Park avenue, last night at 11:20 o'clock. His condition had been critical for several days and death was due to bronchial pneumonia.
He was a son of Albert and Jennie Ubben and was born in Ostfreisland, Germany, June 13, 1850. He came with his parents to America when five years old; living at Grand Detour, Ill., for two years, and then coming to Pekin, where he has since resided. His marriage, which was to Eliza Ubben, took place in this city 55 years ago. Mrs. Ubben died several years ago and he is survived by the following children; Theodore H. Ubben, Louis, and Sarah Ubben, of Pekin. Three daughters, Mrs. John
Bonk, Teenie, and Lenora Ubben and two sons, Albert and Henry, preceded the father in death. Thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Ubben was a member of the Second Baptist church, a man whose life had been lived in keeping his religious professions, and had been an example for good. He was honorable in allhis dealings. He had long been identified with the affairs of the community and in his passing, a good man has gone to his reward.
For many years Mr. Ubben was with the A. J. Hodges Header Company and the Acme Harvester Company, being superintendent of the painting department of these concerns. Twenty years ago he became head of and identified with the Ubben Coal Company, which has been successfully conducted and is one of the leading coal companies of this section.
Funeral services will be held at the residence, 1104 Park avenue, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery.
