Vivian Sophia Schings, 88, of Dixon, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. She worked as a customer service representative at Freedom Federal Bank in Berwyn for 16 years prior to her retirement in 1983.

Vivian was born November 5, 1926, in Lynxville, WI, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Messling) Benhart. She married Joseph Gardner on November 23, 1946, in Lynxville, WI. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1967. She then married Eugene Philip Schings on May 29, 1968, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2001. Vivian volunteered at many hospitals, including KSB.

Survivors include one son, Philip Gardner of Lake Zurich; one daughter, Linda (Herbert) Henderson of Ingleside, IL; two-step-daughters, Beverly (Chester) Limbaugh of Royal Oak, MI, Diane (Gus) Tsauloufis of Grayslake; one brother, Leslie Benhart of East Moline; one granddaughter, Christa Wright; four step-grandchildren, Heather (Larry) Berwanger, Thomas (Samantha) Limbaugh, David (Patti) Infantino, Judy Niemann; six great grandchildren, Justin Wright, Olivia Wright, Zack (Kat) Limbaugh, Jake Niemann, Alex Berwanger, Emma Berwanger; and one great great grandson, Landon Limbaugh.

She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; and one step-daughter, Carol Gardner; and one step-grandson, Chester Limbaugh.

Visitation will be from 2 – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Lost Lake Community Church, 90 West Flagg Road in Dixon.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the church with the Rev. Bob Clardie, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at Daysville Cemetery in Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Lost Lake Community Church and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
