In Trexlertown Lehigh Co. Pa, Feb. 20th, 1881 he recieved a Rheine Catechismus Book written for the Evangelical

He spent 2 years working for a truck farmer in Dayton, Ohio as a gardner.

He lived for 3 years working as a carpenter in Morrison Co.Little Falls, Minnesota

By 1898 he had reached Montana when he decided to join the Gold Rush in Alaska. My grandpa quickly discovered he wasn't a gold miner, but the need for carpenters provided him with employment until he decided to return to Seattle.
Soon he went back to work for the railroad, building a bridge over the Lewis River in southwest Washington, and
there he met Wilhelm { Bill } Schweighoefer. Bill had homesteaded near Laurel, in Klickitat Co.

In 1903: Oscar filed a homestead claim on the adjoining land of Bill Schweighoefer. Bill and Oscar set up a whip saw to cut lumber for the house that Oscar built near the top of the hill. They also built a house for Bill on his homestead. Now that he owned land and had a house, Oscar began to think of marriage. He and two of his friends, Bill
Schweighoefer and Max Ladiges began to correspond with three young ladies in Germany.

By 1906 my Grandmother had been chosen as Grandpas mail order bride.
They married, on Nov. 11, 1906, in Stevenson.

Anna Marie Hoyer who stepped down from the train at Stevenson, Washington and saw for the first time the man for whom she had left her home in Germany, crossed an ocean and a continent to marry.

They had a beautiful and loving marriage.
