Alice Helen (Lampe) Longe Heimann passed away on Wednesday, November 14th at her home in Emerson, NE with her family surrounding her at the age of 99 years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Emerson, with the Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Emerson. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, Nebraska.
Alice was born in Pender NE on October 30, 1908 to C. Fred & Wilhelmina (Weber) Lampe. She was baptized at St Marks Lutheran Church in Pender, NE. She took normal training classes and worked in the telephone office every summer through High School, graduated from Pender High School in 1926. After graduation she attended Wayne Normal, now Wayne State College and taught in rural schools in Thurston and Wayne counties for several years. On August 29, 1929 she married Rudy C. Longe of Wakefield and they resided on a farm south of Wakefield in a home built by her father, C Fred Lampe, a contractor from Pender, NE
Alice was instrumental in organizing the Serve-All Extension Club in 1935 and was still actively involved up until her death. In 1938 she and a sister in law, Grace Longe organized the first Sunday School at St Paul's Lutheran Church south of Wakefield. In 1950 she and Gertrude Utecht Olquist organized the Cloverettes 4-H Club. They taught sewing and cooking.
She was Wayne County Chairman for the American Cancer Society Crusade for many years. In 1990 she was chosen Wayne County Extension Council Homemaker of the Year. She also earned an award for volunteering at the Nebraska Governor's Council in 1987.
Alice travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe and loved to share her stories and adventures. Her husband Rudy passed away in 1977 from a tractor accident. She moved to Emerson in 1980 to care for her terminally ill mother and joined St Luke Lutheran Church. She was active in church functions and also the Senior Center-contributing in the addition of the Pool room and other extras. She played in the Kitchen Band known as the "Elderberries" and they entertained at many Senior Centers and participated in many parades. In February 1985 she married Joe Heimann of Emerson, an accordionist in the kitchen band. With this union she acquired 5 step children, Joe passed away suddenly performing at the Nebraska Governor's Conference at Kearney NE, in May of 1987.
During WWII she began a correspondence with a family in Norway after sending care packages from their club to Norway. This began a lifelong friendship lasting thru 3 & 4 generations. Alice visited them on one of her trips to Europe and they visited Nebraska the following year.
Alice loved to dance, loved listening to music, she bowled for six years on a team and was always ready to go on a trip and liked watch travel videos .She had many hobbies and was known for her lemon pie at the bake sales. She contributed to many charities thru the years . She celebrated her 99th birthday at the Senior Center with family and friends on October 30th and entertained her Servall Extension Club members the following day
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband,.Rudy C. Longe and 2nd husband Joe Heimann, three brothers, Alfred Lampe, Harold Lampe and C Fred Lampe Jr, a sister, Adeline Koopman and a step daughter, Angela Taylor.
Mourning her passing are her sisters, Wilma Vanderwerf & her husband Milo, and Norma Remme, all of Sacramento, CA, Maevis Powers of Norfolk Ne, sisters in law, Dena Lampe of Pender, NE, Louise Larsen of Wayne Ne, special friend, Elmer Lamp, of Emerson, her stepchildren, Rosemary Coan of Emerson, JoAnn Hegwer of Worthington, MN, Shirley Bruse of Paradise, CA, Lucille Nohrenberg of Oregon, and Joey Heimann of Kentucky. and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials ilo flowers may be given to St Luke Lutheran Church of Emerson, NE, Hospice of Sioux City, Ia or to the Cancer Research fund.
