Notes: Christian Claus Schwager was born August 22, 1815, in Schleswig, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Wolf and Margaretha (Kruse) Schwager. He married Elizabeth Anna Messer on May 19, 1846, in Germany. Together they came to the United States to Davenport 1867 and settled on a farm near Durant.

They were the parents of Anna E., Timm, Jurgen and Christian Schwager.
