"Traill County Yesteryears", Hillsboro, ND, Vol. 1, Page 55: "DAN ENGEL - Dan Engel was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. John Daniel Engel and was born at Winchester, Wisconsin, October 10, 1867. Here on the parental farm, he grew to manhood. Together with his father, he came to Traill County and purchased land a short distance east of Hillsboro, and settled there in the fall of 1888.

"He became identified with the business life of Hillsboro, was president of the Equity Elevator & Trading Company of Hillsboro, and Vice President of the Peoples State Bank. He also served as county commissioner for two terms.

"He was united in marriage to Miss Ida Gronke, December 14, 1892. To this union four children were born. The children were Edmund Engel, Herbert Engel, Mrs. Conrad Leraas and Norman Engel. Dan Engel died Feb. 20, 1929."
