DEATH CLAIMS H. T. SMALLWOOD IN FLORIDA
Prominent Local Resident Expired Suddenly at St. Petersburg.

Hazel T. Smallwood, 77 years old, one of the best known residents of Bloomingtin [sic], died at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at St. Petersburg, Fla., where he had gone several weeks ago to spend the winter. Although Mr. Smallwood had been sick about a year he had been bedfast less than a week. His son, J. B. Smallwood, of this city, was with him when he died, having left for St. Petersburg this week. His other son, C. C. Smallwood, who was in Tucson, Arizona, with his family, wired today he would arrive in Bloomington tomorrow night. The body of the aged man will arrive here Monday noon. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but the burial will be at Harrodsburg. Mr. Smallwood's wife died about two years ago.

Mr. Smallwood was born at Harrodsburg and lived there until nine years ago when he moved to Bloomington and erected a beautiful brick residence on south Grant street. After the death of his wife he erected a smaller house on east Ninth street which he occupied until he departed for Florida, October 1. Mr. Smallwood had been spending the winter at St. Petersburg for several years.

Mr. Smallwood was in the general merchandise business at Harrodsburg several years and spent most of his life in that vicinity. For a time he was agent of the Monon at Crawfordsville and for a short time also lived at Martinsville. He was very successful in business, and was regarded as one of the best citizens of the community. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Knights of Pythias lodge at Harrodsburg.
