Jacob and Gertrude Jongewaard were married in Orange City, Iowa on November 6, 1888 and become the parents of 10 children.
They moved to Litchville in 1905 and then in 1907 the moved to Marion where they lived until going to Jamestown, North Dakota in 1922. In Litchville and Marion, Jacob was very active in civic affairs. He was a member of both the school and township boards in Marion and assisted in the organization of the Reform church in both Litchville and Marion.
They moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1925. He was active in the Methodist church and Sunday school in Sheridan and contributed religious articles to the Dutch language papers in this country as well as articles to The Sheridan Star.
Jacob died on October 7, 1944 in Sheridan, Wyoming. The funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church and resided by Rev. Howard L. Elston. Jacob was buried in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery on October 12, 1944. On December 11, 1944, Jacob's family bought and donated a bible to his church in memory of "Jacob D. Baas".
Gertrude Katherine Jongewaard was born to Dutch parents on February 24th, 1866 in Pella, Iowa
(on her son Albert's birth certificate, dated 1895, her name was spelled "Geertruida C.. Jongwaard").
Gertrude died in Sheridan, Wyoming on April 6, 1950. She lived for 25 years in Sheridan at 1059 Sumner Street. She was a memeber of the First Methodist church in Sheridan. She was buried in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery on April 10, 1950. She was survived by 10 children, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
