Daughter of George Washington and Elvira Clarinda Foster Dieter. Esther graduated in 1913 from Cattaraugus Teachers Training and became a school teacher. Esther joined the DAR on the Revolutionary War service of her great-great grandfather, Capt. John Dieter.

She served as Chaplain, Historian and Director of the Genesee Ch. Esther became a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants through her mother's Mayflower ancestor, Stephen Hopkins, who came to Plymouth, Mass., 1620. Esther and Eldon were members of the Flint Genealogy Society, the Genesee Co. Historical and Museum Society, the Central N.Y. Genealogical Society and the Connecticut Society of Genealogists. 1959-1960, Esther compiled a History of the Wesleyan Methodist Chh. of Napoli, NY.
