HELLMANN - Mary Jane, 82, widow of Dr. Jack King Hellmann, peacefully passed on to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 31, 2008. Mrs. Hellmann, was a graduate of Loretto High School and Spalding College in Louisville. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church for over 50 years. At Holy Spirit School, she volunteered her services as an advanced math teacher for over two decades, inspiring many students with her enthusiasm and imagination. She also gave generously of her time as a volunteer for the Kentucky Center for the Arts for over ten years. "MJ," as she was affectionately known, was an avid tennis player, capturing the Falls City Championship as a teenager. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hellmann was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Obermeier; her brothers, Bert, John and Charles Obermeier; her sister, Doris Langan; and Mrs. Hellmann's infant daughter, Julia. Mrs. Hellmann is survived by five children and their spouses, Jean and Mike Delaney, of Louisville, Dr. David and Linda Hellmann of Baltimore MD, Donald and Ginny Lange Hellmann, of Lexington, KY, Susan and Larry Casper, of Louisville and John and Angeline Huguelet Hellmann, of Marlton, NJ. She is survived by eleven grandchildren, Chris Hellmann (Tasha), of Louisville, Joshua Hellmann, of Louisville, Dr. Matthew Hellmann, Jessica Hellmann, of Baltimore, MD, Alex, Charles, John Bradley and Elizabeth Hellmann, of Marlton, NJ, Jack Hellmann, of Lexington, KY, Chelly and Sam Sanders of Louisville; and three stepgrand children, of Louisville, Angela Marlett (John), Lisa Piazza (Chuck) and Larry Casper II. Also surviving are her two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Hellmann; and seven step-great grandchildren, of Louisville. The family of Mrs. Hellmann, wishes to express their most sincere appreciation to all the staff of Twinbrook Nursing Home for the love and care they provided our Mother over the last three years. Funeral Mass is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ratterman's Funeral Home, Lexington Road, Louisville, KY. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Sam Sanders and Matthew, Joshua, Alex, Charles, John Bradley and Jack Hellmann. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be sent to St. Michael Indian School (address: Development Office, St. Michael Indian School, P.O. Box 650, St. Michaels, AZ.
