His brother, Calvin, was b. 1828 married Susan Francis Martin 19 Feb 1857. He enlisted 19 Mar 1862 in Stokes County at the age of 31 He enlisted in Co. D. 52nd Infantry Regiment NC Troops on 28 Apr 1862. He died of disease on 17 May 1862 at Raleigh, NC,
His brother, Thornton, b. 1835 married Elizabeth Abbott 14 Mar 1861. He enlisted in Co. G NC 21st Inf Regt on 25 July 1862. He mustered out on 04 Nov 1862 at Richmond, VA.
John William Tuttle married Sarah Jane Neal 11 Nov 1867. They were the parents of 10 children.
