John "Keith" Helmer, of Kingman, AZ, passed away at his home on June 17, 2009.
Keith was born in Sheboygan Falls, WI, on August 25, 1928 to Bert and Ethel Helmer.
In the late 1940s, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Davis-Mothan Air Force Base near Tucson, AZ. He served eight years. After leaving the Air Force, Keith started his career with the Arizona Highway Patrol in Tucson.
In 1959, Keith moved with his wife and three children to Kingman, AZ, to continue working as a Highway Patrol Officer. After retirement from the Department of Public Service in 1975, he went to work for the Mohave County Attorney's Office. In 1990, Keith retired.
Keith was so proud of his famous cookouts—he loved his brats. He would decorate Christmas trees to perfection—lights, ornaments and tinsel hung just so! He was always eager and excited to return to Wisconsin to see family and friends—you could take the boy out of Wisconsin, but not Wisconsin out of the boy.
Keith is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Joanne Helmer and Kim Fitzimmons; his son, Keith (Laurie) Helmer; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gwendolyn Schieffner of Sheboygan Falls, Grace (Clare) Landry of Beloit, WI, Ruth (Stan) Lammers of Waldo, WI; and one brother, Lyle (Gloria) Helmer, Colonial Heights, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lettie Houwers, Katherine Helmer, Anna May Helmer; and three brothers, Albert, Harold and Carl.
Following Keith's wishes, cremation has taken place. His ashes spread at Oak trees 6828' on Boy Scout Trail in Hualapai Mts.
