John R. Foltz

John Robert Foltz, 38, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at his home, surrounded by family, after a four-year battle with brain cancer.

Born in Beech Grove, he was the son of Robert L. and Bonnie Jean (Colvin) Foltz. He married Lora Burns, and she survives.

Other survivors include his parents; son, Jack Foltz; brothers, Jason (wife, Traci) Foltz and Dan Foltz (fiancee, Jean Trippel); grandmothers, Jenny Foltz and Marie Williams; nieces and nephew, Jennah, Emily and Luke Foltz; uncles and aunts, Bob and Nancy (Foltz) Adams, Jim and Sally Williams, Mike and Maddy Williams, Tom Colvin and Dan Colvin; and many beloved cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth Foltz, Clyde Williams, Jim and Mary Colvin; and dear friend, Mark W. Williams.

Mr. Foltz farmed full time with his father and brothers.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1989 and Purdue University in 1995, with a double major in agricultural economics and Spanish, which took him to Spain, where he lived for several months.

Mr. Foltz was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. At Purdue, he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi.

Travel was one of his passions, as he backpacked through Europe and honeymooned in Ireland.

As he was eager to help others, he rarely did things for himself. However, he did enjoy music and cooking and had a knack for numbers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the rosary recited at 3 p.m., at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St.

Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Throughout his four-year battle, Mr. Foltz supported the American Brain Tumor Association and made his wish known that any expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the association at ABTA, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018 or www.abta.org. Envelopes also available at the funeral home.
