March 17, 1918 – Feb. 13, 2006

Long–time Lovell resident and businessman, Walter H. Keil, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at North Big Horn Hospital. He was born in Billings, Mont. on March 17, 1918, to Henry and Mollie Keil. The family moved to Lovell in 1936.

Walter graduated from Billings High School, and attended college at Billings Polytechnic Institute, University of Montana, and earned a B.A. degree in animal industry at Montana State University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army June 1942. After serving his country in the 251st Station Hospital for three and one-half years he received an honorable discharge in November 1945.

Walter married the love of his life, Jane Shields of Hot Springs, Mont., whom he met in the Missoula, Mont., St. Patrick's Hospital in April 1947.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; son Steven G. Keil of West Jordan, Utah; two sisters, Rachel Partridge of Mesa, Ariz., and Ann Bradley of Laurel Mont.; and brother, Richard Keil of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He worked for his father in the grocery business, farming, hardware store, owned his own hardware business in Lovell and retired in 1974.

Walter loved to fish, camp, garden and in later years cook. He was known for his pies, cakes and cookies.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Faith Southern Baptist Church in Lovell, Wyo. Burial will follow at Lovell Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jane requests that any donations be given to Faith Southern Baptist Church of Lovell.
