Mrs. Rieke died Wednesday in a Sterling hospital.She was born Nov. 29, 1895, in LeRoy, the daughter of Wilhelm and Anna Maria Meier Schmidt. She attended school in LeRoy and Logan County High School graduating in 1917. She taught for a year at Prairie View School near Padroni and during the World War II taught at the Valentine School near Padroni. She married Ray Rieke May 16, 1918. The couple observed their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1968. Mrs. Rieke was an active leader in the Padroni Community Church and the Northastern Colorado American Baptist Women's Missionary Society. When the couple moved to Sterling, Mrs. Rieke became active in the Christ United Methodist Church and at the time of her death was a member emeritus of its Missions Commission.
She was also a member of the Jane Jeffersons, the Farmers Union, American Red Cross, Gideons, the Historical Scoeity and active in many other civic,school and community
organization activities.
Mrs. Rieke is survived by her husband, Ray E. Rieke of 239 Charmony Place; three daughters, Mrs. Clella Best of Fort Morgan, Miss Ardith Rieke of Denver and Mrs. Jennevieve Wethington of Borger, Tex.; a brother, Jesse L. Schmidt of Sterling; four grandsons and four grand daughters.
