Sgt. 1st Class Jason J. Fabrizi, 29, of Seffner, Fla., a 1998 graduate of Armwood High School, entered the army on October 15, 1998. Both his parents were retired Marine Corps veterans. His served 3 tours of duty in Iraq: March 2003 to September 2003, August 2004 to July 2005 and October 2006 to December 2007. Currently assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colorado, he deployed to Afghanistan in May 2009, and died July 14 in Konar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his mounted patrol was attacked by enemy forces using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. Jason spent 32 months on combat tours, and every single one of those months he was in the squad leadership role, with his nature to lead from the front. He was so proud of his service to his country, he protected his troops first, that was his priority. His awards include: Bronze Star Medal (2 awards), Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and Parachutist Badge. Jason is survived by his wife, Kristine Kool, a 2-year-old son, Layne Timothy, and an unborn baby girl, Regan Lynn Fabrizi, all of the home; two sons from his first marriage: Jason Allen, 9, and Tyler, 6, Fabrizi of Riverview, Fla.; sister, Erik T. Aylesbury, Sparks, Nev.; two brothers, Jason K. Hess, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jarrod R. Hess, Valrico, Fla.; two aunts; four uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is the grandson of George W. and Shirley J. Hess, of Chillicothe, and Albert Fredrick and the late Donna Casey of Cleveland, Ohio.
