She was born on May 3, 1919 in the Town of Greenwood, Vernon County to Anton and Annie (Haugh) Rott. Julia was united in marriage to Harold "Pete" Eder on April 24, 1942 in Wonewoc. They purchased the Hillsboro Bakery in 1946 and worked together there until she was able to fulfill her dream of owning a restaurant. In 1971, they opened Country Style Cookin' Restaurant, which became well known for her Czech cooking and noon lunches. Julia had a strong work ethic, with her cooking skills appreciated by many; she worked morning to night until her retirement in 1992. Pete had preceded her in death on September 21, 1979.
Julia was a co-founder of Cesky Den, a strong supporter of the Czech heritage celebration; she served as Queen in 1994. She took great pride in her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Also after retirement she enjoyed trying new recipes on her family, which provided a large array of different foods. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include four children, Edith Gustafson (Dan Baisden) of Tomah, Harold David Eder of Richland Center, Robert (Kathy) Eder of Madison, and Patricia (David) Copus of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Mike (Kelly) Gustafson, Mark (Rebecca) Gustafson, Justin Eder, Amber Eder, Jonathan (Lisa) Eder, Jessica (Matt) Devine, Emily Copus, and Erin Copus; great-grandchildren, Peter and Ellie Gustafson, Kiarra Evans, Anthony and Kaytlin Eder; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Rott of Wonewoc. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her Parents, three brothers, William, Rudolph, and Victor Rott; and four sisters, Pauline Birdd, Agnes Degner, Martha Degner and Victorina Rott.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, with Rev. Donald Ehler officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the Church on Friday starting at 10:00 a.m.
