Otto G. Kracke, 79, of Chapman, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene after a long battle with cancer.

Kracke was born June 15, 1930, near Woodbine, to the late William and Alma (Behrens) Kracke. He grew up in Woodbine, along with three sisters, attended the Walnut Grove ?School and graduated from Chapman High School in 1948. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in San Diego, Calif, for one year.

He returned to Dickinson County and on January 9, 1954, he married Dixie Kelly of Abilene.

They made their home in the Enterprise area for 49 years, where he succeeded his proudest accomplishment, raising three daughters. Otto and Dixie then made their home in Chapman for the past six years. He worked for C.E. Ehrsam Company later becoming A.B.B. for 47 years prior to the plant closing in 1996. Kracke was a member of the Buckeye Saddle Club, American Quarter Horse Association, served as a superintendent for the 4-H division and was instrumental in starting and sponsoring the team roping event at the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo. Outside of work, his favorite past time was team roping and attending rodeos. Kracke was quite the prankster and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed shooting pool at the Abilene Senior Center, drinking coffee with friends at McDonalds, driving around visiting old friends and taking in the countryside and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Kracke is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; three daughters, Glenda Riffel of Wamego, Terri Jackson and husband Dwayne of Abilene and Sharon Rutz and husband Rob of Abilene; three sisters, Lenora Smith of Marion, Arlene Ingrum of Abilene and Audrey Lardenois and husband Jean of Herington; four grandsons, Dustin Taylor of Minneapolis, Justin Riffel of Coos Bay, Ore., Eric Riffel of Belvue, Trey Jackson of Abilene; one granddaughter, Jessica Rutz and one great-granddaughter, Jenna Nicole of Wichita.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 2, at the show barn at the fairgrounds with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Kracke was laid to rest in the Bethel Cemetery, rural Enterprise.

Pallbearer were Jim Brandt, Bob Duncan, Randy Heller, Roy Palmer, Bob Anderes, Jeff Rome, DeWayne Payton and Dennis Marston. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Miller, Clarence Perkins, Arlie Janzen, Gordon Kuntz, Bruce Kogler, Bob Riggin and Doc Banion.
