J. B. Brouwer died yesterday afternoon about 2:30, after an illness of some time. He had been ailing for several months and at his advanced age of 84 years, it was not expected that he could last long.

He was born in Germany, May 21, and was married to Kathrina Bruns May 31, 1861. They came to the United States in 1869., and lived for five years in Hardin County, Iowa, coming to Hancock County in 1874. Since that time they have lived here continuously except eight years they spent in Nebraska.

There were ten children born to Mr. And Mrs. Brouwer, three of whom preceded their father in death. The seven living are Mrs. H. L. Suckow of Klemme, John Brouwer of Taylor Falls, Minn., Mrs. Henry Stromer of Portland, Oregon, Louis of Newberg, Oregon, Ralph who lives east of Garner, Will of Garner, and Joe who lives on a farm near Ventura. The children were all at home at the time of their father's death except John and Louis. Whether they will be able to come to the funeral is not known at this time.

Mr. Brouwer was a member of the German M. E. Church, and had been for many years. He was a good Christian man, and a good citizen. He lived to see his children grown to manhood and womanhood, and they too numbered among our best people. He was a fine old gentleman and leaves a host of friends, beside many relatives, to mourn his death. The funeral will be held from the home at 1 o'clock.
