Duane Meserole, 36, of Lakeside, passed away Monday, February 7, 2000. He was born in DeKalb, Illinois and was a well-known East San Diego County resident, where he lived since he was 3 years old. Duane was employed by Community Healthcare Alternatives, where he worked as the Program Director, having been employed by the same principals for over 18 years. Duane was a loving, gentle father who was dedicated to the daily care of his children, Johnathon Meserole, age 10, and Lisa Meserole, age 8, of Lakeside, whom he adored. Duane was a friend to everyone he met. His warmth and kindness were returned with love from his family and numerous friends throughout the world. He was also loved and respected by his employees and business associates, and his work in the field of mental health brought immeasurable comfort and assistance to many young adults. He was truly a man who lived and died without making enemies. He was a very intelligent person who was also a computer expert. Duane was a talented musician, singer and song writer. Playing his guitar was one of his favorite pastimes.
As Duane takes his journey through Heaven's doors, he leaves behind his broken-hearted children, Johnny and Lisa, and his mother, Diann Meserole, of Lakeside. He was beloved and his loss is deeply felt by his brothers, Dan Abell of La Mesa and Doug Meserole of Idaho, and sisters, Rita Bielke of Texas and Regina Ricard of Colorado, as well as his brothers-in-law, Tony Ricard and Guy Bielke, and sisters-in-law, Jackie Meserole and Dee Abell. Duane was a very special nephew to his aunt, Joyce Swineheart Moore and her husband Gerald Moore, his uncle Elwin Abell and his uncle and aunt, Don and Mary Mullis. Over the years he brightened the lives of his grandmothers, Marguerite Mullis and Hattie Meserole, of East County. His children's mother, Peggy of Shasta, California, and their stepfather, Chris Pelucca, share in the pain of this tragic loss. Duane was loved and will be missed by his cousins who grew up with him, Elwin Abell, Marty Swineheart, Jodi Brandenstein and Dana Moore. He is also grieved by his aunt, Jean Tait, and family in Illinois, uncles, Harold Meserole of Florida and Eddie Meserole of Wisconsin, aunt, Claribelle Shaw of Genoa, Illinois, and numerous cousins. Duane will be welcomed into God's care by his father, Charles D. Meserole, who preceded him in death in May of 1998, two grandfathers, Embree Meserole and Ray Mullis, his aunt, Dilene Abell and uncle, Joe Moree.
A public memorial service will be held at the Wesleyan Church of Lakeside, 9455 Las Coches Road, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, followed by a reception to celebrate his life. Donations to a fund for his children or flowers to honor his life may be delivered to the church any time that day.
