Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Wendelin M. Fruth, age 86, of St. Cloud who died on Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud from complications of cancer. The Rev. Greg Paffel will officiate.
Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN with full military honors.

Friends may call between 4 - 9 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 will pray at 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud followed by Waite Park American Legion at 6:15 p.m., VFW Post 428 at 6:30 p.m. and St. Anthony's parish prayers at 7 p.m.

Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud made the arrangements.

Wendelin was born on Sept. 29, 1915, in Luxemburg, MN to Aloys and Anna (Hansen) Fruth. As a young man he worked in the CC Camps and helped build the Alaskan highway. He served in the US Navy Sea Bees during WW II in the South Pacific. He was also a licensed civilian pilot for many years. He married Viola Schreifels on Nov. 24, 1938, in St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction and later owned and operated Dyna - Vac Power cleaning service in St. Cloud. He was a member of VFW Post 428, Waite Park American Legion Post 428, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, Moose Lodge 1400, Knights of Columbus Council 961, Local 49 Union of Operating Engineers and St. Anthony's parish.

Survivors include his children: Donna McComb (James) of Henderson, NV. Ann Wolfe of Arlington, VA. Dick (Mary Ann) of Monticello, and Nancy Stueve (Tom) of St. Cloud; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; brothers and sister: Martin of Sartell, Ray of St. Cloud and Emma Thielmann of Waite Park. He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 22, 1980, his parents, brothers: Hubert, Andy, Rev. Alban OSB, Leo, Ben, Leonard, and sisters: Marie Keppers, Genevieve Mohs, and Helen Fruth. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
