Mary Ann Betz, 84, of Porter, Ind., passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Michigan City.
Mary Ann was born in Walkerton, Ind., on Dec. 4, 1924 to Carl and Anna (Abberger) Hoeppner.
On Oct. 9, 1948, in La Porte, she married Dayton E. Betz.
Mary Ann was a homemaker and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was active with the church for many years as a Sunday School teacher and quilted with the ladies aide.
She is survived by son, Douglas D. (Susan) Betz of Chesterton, Ind.; daughter, Susan Marie (Daniel) Dekoker of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Lesley Dekoker, Amanda Martin, Angela Betz and Rebecca Betz.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dayton in 1982, brothers, Carl, Anton and James Hoeppner and sister, Barbara Buche.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at 11 a.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. 1100 N., Chesterton, with Rev. Erik Fickel officiating. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
