Laura Edel Murphy, 95, of Morton, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
She was born February 28, 1927, in Haverhill, Iowa, to Louis and Vera Waltemeyer Edel. Laura married Jay J. Murphy on June 22, 1957 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2005. She was also proceeded in death by one brother, James Edel; and son-in-law, Harold "Bud" Jenkins.
Surviving are her children, Matthew Murphy of Dallas, Texas, Brian Murphy and Molly Murphy, both of Morton; three grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Murphy, Kaleigh (Sean) Robertson and Janelle (Zachary Strittmatter) Anderson.
Laura worked for Hanna Clinic in Peoria as an x-ray technician for a number of years.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Morton. She was a Founding member of the NB Chapter of PEO, Kennel Lake Sportsmen Club and Cursillo. Laura was also a Morton Girl Scout Leader.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or All Saints Episcopal Church in Morton. Laura's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers from Home Instead, OSF Palliative and Hospice care and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for all of the care, comfort and love they gave to her.
Laura was a very special lady and loved immensely, she will be dearly missed.
