Walter F. Hermsen

Walter F. Hermsen, age 90, of rural Lamar, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at Barton County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Walter was born March 30, 1919, at David City, Neb., to Joseph and Angela (Seibold) Hermsen.
On June 18, 1946, he married Irma Ann Macholan at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City, Neb.
In 1951, after living in David City and South Bend, Ind., for several years, they moved to Barton County, where they have farmed and raised cattle for more than 50 years.
Walter was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lamar, and Knights of Columbus.
Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irma Hermsen, of the home; one son, Walter F. "Cork" Hermsen II and his wife, Yolanda, of Lamar; one daughter, Karen McKee and her husband, Randy, of Augusta, Kan.; two brothers, Paul Hermsen, Indianapolis, Ind., and Alvin Hermsen, Topeka, Kan.; one sister, Evelyn Ducoff, Madera, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Yvette Gordon, Brendan McKee and Cameron McKee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold Hermsen.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Daniel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Palermo officiating.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with visitation to follow.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lamar.
Contributions are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund or the charity of the donor's choice in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
