She was raised in Monmouth and attended Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth High School. She was married to Richard A. Bowman on Dec. 2, 1966, in Hales Corner, Wis.
Joyce was a faithful member of West Side Presbyterian Church in Monmouth until it closed and she then joined First Lutheran Church of Monmouth and served it diligently for the remainder of her life.
A lifelong Monmouth resident, Joyce worked in the business community from 1957 until she retired in 2005, the majority of the time spent in family-owned shoe retail and wholesale operations throughout the Midwest.
Cherished by her husband Dick and a wonderful relative to all her family, her true calling came when she became a mother to Pam and Bill and then a grandmother to Michelle, Heather, Jacob and Dylan. She was a wonderful friend to many for a lifetime, remembering all of her grade school and high school chums until her death and beyond.
Her many outstanding traits included her sense of humor, her warm and loving nature and her ability to listen without offering criticism. Her family and friends treasured her for these traits and many more. She is survived by her husband, Richard A Bowman of Monmouth; one daughter, Pamela Jo Ide (Larry) of Monmouth; one son, William Algot Bowman (Liezl) of Champaign; grandchildren Michelle Elizabeth Ide, Heather Christine Ide, Jacob Dean Ide and Dylan Christopher Bowman; her sister, Shirley Jean Camp of Chicago Heights; two aunts, Ruth Oaks of Monmouth and Alice McCreight of Sherrard; and very good friends Ronnie and Joan Sprout of Monmouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Carol McCullough Conn; nieces Carol Bowman and Linda Teel; and a great-niece, Shannon St. George.
A funeral is planned on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. Her family plans to receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. For more information please visit www.turnbullfuneralhomes.com.
