Barbara Ann Thomas Rayl, 73, of Hughesville, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jack Conard officiating. Pallbearers will be Rodney Thomas, Karis Thomas, DeWayne Thomas, Brent Birdwell, John Birdwell and Darrell Cressley. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the High Point Cemetery Fund or the Hughesville Baptist Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
She was born Feb. 26, 1934, in rural Smithton, the daughter of Rollie James Thomas and Melvina Elizabeth Brownfield Thomas. She grew up in the Smithton area and graduated from Hughesville High School in 1951. On Sept. 22, 1951, she married Charles F. Rayl in Harrison, Ark.. They lived their entire 53 years of marriage in the Hughesville area as farmers. She loved to read, sew, sing, paint and draw pictures, and working in her garden and flower beds. She was very active as a teacher in 4-H and PTO at Northwest High School. She was a member of the Sedalia Osage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hughesville.
Surviving are three sons, Charles F. Rayl Jr. of Hughesville, Roy Lyn Rayl of Hughesville and Robert D. Rayl of Eugene; one daughter, Diana E. Higgins of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three brothers, Ralph Thomas of Smithton, Roy Zeb Thomas of La Monte and Otis Thomas of Sedalia; four sisters, Grace Bremer of Sedalia, Lucille Davis of Sedalia, Bernice Bary of Sedalia and Melva Ruth Campbell of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters-in-law; 20 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
