Milan newspaper said he died at his home in Cora and was interred in Deep Springs Cemetery. Charles married Elizabeth Cotter in Sevier Co., Tenn. in 1848. She died 1859 in Mo. They had six children: Hannah Rebecca, Margaret Jane, William Henry, Nancy Elizabeth, Wiley Valentine, and James Sylvester.

Charles married Martha Ann Cleaton Feb. 12, 1860 in Milan, Sullivan Co., Mo. and they had eight children: Mary Frances, Charles William, Sarah Ellen, Armilda Catherine, Thomas John, George W., Warren Mac and Josie Lubertha. He served in the 23rd Mo. Vol Inf. during the Civil War but doesn't have a tombstone. Martha preceded him in death March 31, 1906 and is buried in Deep Springs Cemetery. He is buried beside her.
