Elvera Baier, 85, of Springfield, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. A parish prayer service is 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A St. Anne's CCW Rosary is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharon Baier and special friend Ernie Goodrow of Springfield; grandchildren, Randy and wife Amy Baier of Springfield, Shannon and husband Darren Bode of St. Peter; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Mathiowetz of Springfield, Bernice Augustin of Sleepy Eye, and Doris and husband Wilbert Rosenau of Olivia; brother, Gilbert and wife Alice Ludewig of Sleepy Eye; and a special friend, Julia Schwaegerl of St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph in 1989; son, Kenneth in 1998; and brother, Marvin Ludewig.
She was born June 2, 1916, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, to John and Martha (Meyer) Ludewig. She attended District 32 School. She worked for and with various families in the area. She married Joseph Baier Jr. on May 29,1939, in Leavenworth. She worked at Augustin's Butcher Shop and Runck Hardware. She and her husband owned and operated the Springfield Locker Plant. She was a former member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs and a long-time member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and St. Anne's CCW.
